Baby Steps – some rules to be aware of if you’re going to play (PLUS SCHEDULE)

We’ve had two Batting Practice (BP) sessions and they went great. Stowe is one of two towns opening up baseball for the Summer, at least at this point, Hyde Park is the other. In the spirit of America we’re going to be inviting our neighboring towns who aren’t fielding teams, to play in either location. Every participant must be a registered member of a town little league in Lamoille County to participate and every participant must fill out the questionnaire (found at the top of the website) before any and every event they come to.

That being said I think we’re going to have a great, albeit abnormal season. The Governor has allowed games to start on July 1, which we probably won’t be ready for, but it sets a good goal for us and for all the kids that really want to play this year. There’s a lot of baseball loving folks out there and together we will figure out how to do it well.

That being said there’s a few rules/suggestions, beside the CDC and State mandated rules for opening back up. Specifically for Stowe here they are, so far:

  • Kids must bring their own equipment or get loaners, if we have them, that they will keep for the duration of the season or until we ask for them back.
  • Baseballs cannot easily be sanitized and kids will share baseballs.
  • We’re not using dugouts. Each player should take a section of fence and keep their gear up against that section and in the middle, the sections are about 8 feet apart.
  • All players need to have masks on them, in their back pocket or wherever but are not required to use them UNLESS coaches say MASK UP in which case everyone puts them on
  • All coaches will also have masks and will wear them when bringing the kids together.
  • Social distance is part of baseball anyway but we will be explicit with the kids to keep their distance withouth ruining the community experience.
  • There is hand sanitizer available
  • Please make sure you’re familiar with current CDC and State rules
  • Be patient. A lot of us have been doing more sitting than swinging and more resting than running and it shows!!

See you out there!
